Mammaw's Poke Salad

This recipe is one my 98 year old grandmother showed me when I was staying with her. She is not doing quite as well now, but her mind is still sharp as a tack. I will never forget being in her kitchen that afternoon learning once again from a women who has taught me so much. The poke salad came from my uncle's pasture. As with all greens, they cook down so more is needed than you might think.

Easy 2 ingredient stroganoff that tastes better than with hamburger!! My family loves it and is so very easy to make. Both items are store bought products and requires no cutting or browning either!

Baked Bean Soup - Heirloom Recipe

This heirloom recipe comes from a fantastic recipe collection from the midwest and is noted as being "Aunt Alice's". Many families had a baked bean supper each week, and having a soup the next day for lunch made from the leftovers is a tradition that many remember fondly. Any type of baked beans can be used in this recipe with good results - even those from a can. If you do not have a food processor, you can make this by pressing the beans through a sieve and then beating them with the water until they are smooth.

Not a diet recipe by any means, this rich soup makes a great vegetarian entree, or can also be used as an appetizer if desired. This recipe is from a "country style" recipe collection I picked up at auction that spans several generations and over 6 decades of great cooking.

This is one of those "throw everything in the pot" soups that has a marvelous flavor. It is comforting and cozy, yet elegant enough to serve to guests for a fun and casual Halloween dinner party. You can serve this savory soup from a carved pumpkin or large squash. It is also great served right off the stovetop in individual bowls and served with some crunchy bread and a crisp salad.

Candy Corn Pizza

When I told my husband that we were going to have Candy Corn Pizza for dinner, his first response was "Yuck! That is totally disgusting." Just to clarify, the pizza looks like candy corn. It does not have candy corn on it. (Which I admit, would be pretty grotesque.) This simple cheese pizza is quick, easy, and lots of fun to make and eat. We used a storebought pizza crust for this recipe, but you can use your favorite pizza dough if you prefer.
